Mills and Heritage of Saint-André

Founded in 1992, the association’s goals are to preserve and promote the rural and historical heritage of ST-ANDRE, to raise public awareness about all forms of heritage and the need to protect it, and to preserve the history of our villages.

Description

The association manages two tourist sites for the town of Saint-André that are open to the public during the summer:
* The flour mills in the hamlet of Pralognan—one has been converted into a museum, while the other regularly produces flour for activities for the public and school groups.
* The Chappe telegraph, restored in 2010, is located at an elevation of 1,800 meters in Saint-André at Plan de l’Ours. Equipped with a fully functional optical signaling mechanism, it can communicate via coded messages with other telegraph stations in Haute Maurienne Vanoise.
